Over ten years in the making, this exhibition and accompanying publication, “Birds of Dawn: Pioneers of Japan’s Sodeisha Ceramic Movement,” are the realization of Mirviss's dream to comprehensively present the avant-garde work of the three Sôdeisha founders – Suzuki Osamu, Yagi Kazuo and Yamada Hikaru – to the Western audience. The fully-illustrated book features eighty works, many of which are well-known, while others are recent discoveries. It features essays by three leading scholars in the field: Rupert Faulkner, Joe Earle and Glenn Adamson. Also included are full biographies on each artist.
