If in Japan, you must stop in at the Musée Tomo in Tokyo for the magnificent retrospective exhibition of sculptor Akiyama Yo. Titled “Yo AKIYAMA: Towards the Sea of Arche”, the large and impressively installed show runs until July 24, 2016. It explores Akiyama’s vast oeuvre including masterworks from the powerful, geological Metavoid series, the smooth, abstract sculptures from the Incubation series and includes many of his early iconic, smoke-infused large scale sculptures that have never before been seen together. There is an excellent, accompanying, fully-illustrated catalogue with text in English.
