Soaring Voices - Contemporary Japanese Women Ceramic Artists

"For thousands of years, women have been highly active in the production of ceramics, but their names have largely been unknown. Soaring Voices demonstrates the shift in Japanese society toward individual women artists becoming recognized in an artistic realm traditionally dominated by men. This traveling exhibition features 87 works by 25 exceptional women artists who reflect Japan's rich and innovative ceramic culture.
Soaring Voices was developed by The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Shiga Prefecture, and hus-10, Inc., Tokyo, Japan; the tour was organized by International Arts & Artists, Washington, D.C., and generously supported in part by the E. Rhodes & Leona B. Carpenter Foundation and the S&R Foundation.
Support for Soaring Voices at the ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center was provided by a generous grant from the Japan Foundation, New York, and by Ron and Masako Berman, Elaine and Sidney Cohen, and Sara and David Lieberman.
In connection with the exhibition, the CRC will host Ceram-A-Rama Yaki, Jan. 26-28, 2012. To register for Ceram-A-Rama Yaki or for more information, contact the event's coordinator, Cyndi Coon, at 480.734.5178 or cyndi.coon@asu.edu."
