Born 1934, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan
Residing in an exquisite compound in the mountains near Toki, KISHIMOTO KENNIN is in the center for Oribe and Shino ceramics. He derives his inspiration from these Mino traditions but has transformed these aesthetics into highly creative Iga ware. His enthusiasm for a variety of aesthetic traditions has provided him with a vast range of techniques typically used for unglazed pottery. From the mid-1990s until recently, he has also focused on the highly difficult craft of crackle-glaze celadon ware. However, his natural ash Iga ceramics are what have brought him his greatest acclaim in Japan, Europe and the US.
